Francisco de Goya died on this day in 1828
Painter, engraver and chronicler of his era, Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was born on March 30, 1746 in Fuendetodos, Aragon, Spain. He is considered the most important Spanish artist of late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Goya is often referred to as both the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns.
We recommend to read the complete Francisco de Goya biography by the Prado Museum to know more about this key figure of the Spanish painting history.
We remember here the exhibition presented by the Museo del Prado dedicated to the Tapestry Cartoons, the commission that led Goya to settle in Madrid.
