Zao Wou-Ki. Tribute to Riopelle and Recent Paintings  |   Contemporary Art, 12 4 2008 - 04 5 2009

Zao Wou-Ki. Tribute to Riopelle and Recent Paintings

Born in 1921 in Peking, Zao Wou-Ki is a contemporary artist living and working in Paris. Trained in both the Chinese tradition and European academicism, the abstract canvases of this Franco-Chinese artist often take the form of diptyques and triptyques in which form and colour intertwine. His work is marked by plastic and technical discoveries, a methodical conquest of media and sources, which alternate between oil painting, engraving, calligraphy and India ink painting.
