The Taking of Christ as it also known, was created by 1573-1602. After being purchased in Paris by the Russian Ambassador to France, was presented as a gift to a Russian prince and entered the collection of the Odessa museum during the 20th century. The masterpiece was restored by Kiev specialists in 2006.
It was stolen between last Wednesday and last Thursday.
Another version of the same painting, also by Caravaggio, hangs in the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin
