Constantin Brancusi died on this day in Paris in 1957

16 March, 2017

Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncuși (1876 – 1957), also a painter and photographer, was one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th-century. He is called patriarch of modern sculpture as he moved slowly from the first artistic explorations towards the abstraction.

At his death Brancuși left 1200 photographs and 215 sculptures, and he bequeathed part of his collection to the French state on one condition: his workshop had to be rebuilt after his death. The reconstruction of his studio, next to the Pompidou Centre, is open to the public.

We highlight the exhibition held at the Colecction Peggy Guggeheim in Venice in 2005: Brancusi. The White Work
