Domenico Ghirlandaio was an Italian Renaissance painter. His nickname – ghirlandaio means garland-maker in Italian- came to Domenico from his father, who made metallic garland-like headdresses for Florentine women.
Ghirlandaio, along with Verrocchio, Pollaiolo and Botticelli, is part of the so-called “third generation” of the Florentine Renaissance.
One of his most famous apprentices that passed through his workshop was Michelangelo.
