Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880 – 1938) was a German expressionist painter and printmaker, and one of the key figures of German Expressionism, co-founder of Die Brücke (The Bridge) group of artists in 1905.
One of the pioneers of modernism, suffered the title of “degenerate” in 1933 by the Nazis and four years later, more than 600 of his works were sold or destroyed.
He committed suicide one year later, in 1938.
We remember here the exhibition produced by FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE in collaboration with Kirchner Museum Davos, in 2012.
