Filippo de Pisis was born in 1896
11 May, 2016
Italian painter Filippo de Pisis (1896-1956) is best known for his cityscapes, metaphysically-inspired maritime scenes, and still lifes. His work was presented twice in the Venice Biennale: once during his life, and once posthumously.
The artist’s cosmopolitan nature and his incessant traveling around Europe between the ‘Thirties and the ‘Forties show the de Pisis’s modern light of an intellectual traveler. He chooses the main European capital cities as proper seats of his expressive research, during a period of nations’ reinforcement and international crisis.
A large portion of his work is also housed in the Museo Filippo de Pisis in Ferrara.
We remember here the exhibition held in 2013 at Villa dei Capolavori in Mamiano di Traversetolo (Parma), which was the refined dwelling of Luigi Magnani, de Pisis’s friend and collector, now Magnani Rocca Foundation’s headquarter.
