English Landscape painter Joseph Mallord William Turner, was an controversial figure in his day. Now, he is clearly a key figure in the art history, regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting. He is worldly renowned for his oil paintings but he also was one of the greatest masters of watercolours and his work is regarded as a preface to Impressionism.

We remember here two important exhibitions: the one that is celebrated annually at the Scotland National Gallery with the watercolours from the Vaughan bequest and the exhibition that The National Gallery celebrated in 2012 with the title Turner Inspired: In the Light of Claude.
