Malevich died in 1935

15 May, 2016

“Father of Suprematism”, the painter and art theoretic Kanazimir Severinovich Malevich (1878 – 1935) was a  a pioneer of geometric abstract art that inspired diverse art movements of his day, including Impressionism, Symbolism, Fauvism, and Cubism.

Malevich’s visual language was influenced by Russian icon painting and folk art, and his work presents a rich variety, from the  Impressionist period to his iconic Suprematist phase with his Black Square, the most radical consequence. In the end, he returned to landscapes and figures.

We highlight here two exhibitions: Kazimir Malevich and the Russian Avant-garde staged at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam in 2014 and the most recent Malevich: the retrospective at GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo.
