Pierre Auguste Renoir was born in 1841

25 February, 2017

French painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841 – 1919) was considered one of the leading lights of Impressionism, although the artist only adhered to the movement from 1870 to 1882 and distinguished himself for having sought out beauty, first and foremost in the human figure, and especially in women. He was a celebrator of feminine sensuality.

Renoir presented himself as following in the footsteps of French traditions from the Age of Enlightenment.

He was the father of actor Pierre Renoir, filmmaker Jean Renoir and ceramic artist Claude Renoir and the grandfather of the filmmaker Claude Renoir (1913–1993), son of Pierre.

We highlight the retrospective called La vie en peinture, held at Castello Visconteo di Pavia, in Italy and the exhibition Renoir: Intimacy, at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum
