Warhol died in 1987
22 February, 2017 - 23 February, 2017
American artist Andy Warhol (1928 – 1987), whose real name was Andrew Warhola, was the father of pop art. He had a successful career as an illustrator before beginning the exploration among artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertising that flourished by the 1960s.
Warhol used many types of media: painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music and he was also a pioneer in computer-generated art using Amiga.
The Andy Warhol Museum in his native city, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, holds an extensive permanent collection of art and archives. It is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to a single artist.
We highlight here some of the exhibitions held around the world to celebrate his artistic production: Palazzo Blu in Italy in 2014 presented An American History; Andy Warhol and his shadows at the Guggenheim Bilbao and Headlines, the first exhibition to fully examine the works that Warhol created on the theme of news headlines, at the National Gallery of Modern Art (GNAM) in Rome.
